Can a taxi go anywhere?

When a taxi picks up a fare at home or in an agreed place why is there already a charge on the meter?
This is normal – when called out, the taxi leaves the nearest rank to pick up the fare. The sum showing on the meter corresponds to the call out charge, covering mileage to pick up point
What sum shows on the meter when a customer takes a taxi with no previous booking (at a station/rank)?
When a customer gets into the taxi, the driver starts the meter. The pick up charge is displayed (2€20, Grenoble 2007).
What is the difference between daytime and night time rates ?
In Grenoble, night rates apply from 20hr to 7hr, on Sundays, public holidays, and on snowbound roads
The extra charge of 50% applies to mileage only. Pick up charges are not affected.
Is it possible to obtain a receipt?
Yes, the driver will provide a receipt in accordance with legislation.
Is the meter running when the taxi is stationary ?
Yes – there is a charge of 22E74 an hour (2007 rates).
This takes effect in traffic jams, slow traffic (under 20kms/hr) and while waiting for a customer.
Can a driver ask for a sum higher than the one on the meter ?
• In certain cases :
o 1,40 € extra charge for a fourth adult customer,
o 0,90 € extra charge for an animal (cat/dog),
o 0,90€ extra charge for a bulky luggage in the boot, for anything over 1 piece of luggage.
• Drivers may include motorway charges only when the customer is in the car, and on request.
• Motorway charges do not apply when the taxi takes the motorway on the way to pick up a client.
Can a driver refuse a fare ?
He can refuse :
- To fetch/carry packages up or downstairs
- To pick up a package whose total weight exceeds 100kgs, or whose unitary weight exceeds 30kgs or which might damage or dirty his vehicle.
- To pick up an animal (except a guide dog)
- To pick up a customer who is obviously drunk
- To wait for a customer for more than an hour, unless previously agreed).
Under what circumstances can the driver ask to be paid in advance ?
- Between 22Hr and 6hr or for any fare of consequence, the driver may ask for a deposit, proportionate to the fare, the balance of which will be paid according to the price on the meter.
- When customers emerge from an establishment with multiple exits the driver may ask for immediate payment.
